Residents show waves of support
Residents of Wilson County and surrounding areas have not forgotten the debt owed by Americans to U.S. troops fighting overseas so we can live in peace at home. Hundreds of area residents lined U.S. 87 before dawn May 22 to honor wounded soldiers traveling from Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for the fourth annual Warriors Weekend. Organizers of the event arrange a day’s fishing and fun on the Texas coast for wounded troops receiving treatment at military medical facilities across the country. Five buses left San Antonio at 6:45 a.m. for Port O’Connor. As the entourage passed through Adkins, La Vernia, Sutherland Springs, Stockdale, and Nixon, residents young and old waved flags and cheered, saying loud and clear to America’s military: Thank you!
