Pilot dies in plane crash

SAN ANTONIO (Web posted 1/18/08)-- A pilot is dead following a plane crash shortly before 1 p.m. today in a field near East Central High School on New Sulphur Springs Road.
The single-engine plane was flying from Waco when it disappeared from radar screens around 12:27 p.m. The plane crashed into a barn near the intersection of Knowlton and New Sulphur Springs roads shortly afterward.
The plane broke apart on impact and burst into flames, setting the barn it crashed into on fire. Firefighters from the Sandy Oaks, Lone Oak, and China Grove volunteer fire departments attended the scene, as well as members of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Two men working in the barn were not hurt. The pilot, whose identity has not yet been released to the public, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A representative from the Federal Aviation Agency was also called to the scene of the crash.
