I think you're lying, Wendy. Otherwise you'd know the following:

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, some bacteria, and some protistans use the energy from sunlight to produce sugar, which cellular respiration converts into ATP, the "fuel" used by all living things. The conversion of unusable sunlight energy into usable chemical energy, is associated with the actions of the green pigment chlorophyll. Most of the time, the photosynthetic process uses water and releases the oxygen that we absolutely must have to stay alive.

Plants are the only photosynthetic organisms to have leaves (and not all plants have leaves). A leaf may be viewed as a solar collector crammed full of photosynthetic cells.

The raw materials of photosynthesis, water and carbon dioxide, enter the cells of the leaf, and the products of photosynthesis, sugar and oxygen, leave the leaf.


There's another immediate problem with the Creation story, and the whole of the bible for that matter, that quite simply proves that it's not scientifically sound in the least. Nowhere in the entire text does it mention other planets within our solar system. There is no description of the solar system, no mention of galaxies, or anything else that we know exists in the universe.

This does a pretty good job of showing how the creation myth is the result of a scientifically primitive civilization, and not the divinely influenced, accurate, true story that Christians claim it to be.

Guess what, Danny (as you like to say)? I've been in multiple college science classrooms, grown plants in these windowless rooms, & we DID NOT use UV lights. The process of photosynthesis simply requires LIGHT, not necessarily UV light. It just so happens that most plants utilize the UV light from the sun because that's the most readily available to them.

Oh, and one more thing, Wendy. In College Science Labs, when they grow plants in windowless rooms, they're using U.V. lights, which, guess what? Are made to specifically duplicate the radiation given off by the sun.

I suggest that before you attempt to use science you brush up on the subject you're speaking about before you say anything. Photosynthesis is learned in 6th grade. You should have known better than to say that plants just need mere light to survive.

One thing people don't realize about politicians is that claiming to be Christian in this country is and has been a sure way to gain support.This is because 1/2 of the country's population is Christian. Moreso back then. It's a pandering technique and nothing more.That's a statistic that also speaks for itself, since the amount of Atheists has grown in the last hundred or so years at least. Therefore my quotes of Thomas Jefferson are still very valid and Very real.

And not one of your T. Jefferson quotes did a very good job of reversing that fourth T. Jefferson quote I posted, which mentions SPECIFICALLY his hatred and detest of the Christian god.

One thing people don't realize about politicians is that claiming to be Christian in this country is because 1/2 of the country's population is Christian. Moreso back then. That's a statistic that also speaks for itself, since the amount of Atheists has grown in the last hundred or so years at least.

And that's just the ones that openly admit to being Atheists.

Also, Wendy, you don't even begin to touch on responding to how Genesis contradicts itself. But that's because you're trying to counter something I haven't even elaborated on yet.

Also, what you said proves Christians can't think very well, in regards to plants and light. You've given me a perfect opportunity to debunk the divinity of the creation story further.

Plants don't need light. Light itself doesn't allow plants to survive. What they need is SOLAR RADIATION. Which comes from the SUN. Not just mere light.

People hadn't developed any real science back then and were definitely not scientifically advanced enough to measure or observe the processes of Photosynthesis. To them the sun, the moon, and the stars were all just lights. Which is also interesting because the moon doesn't give off any light of its own, but they didn't know that before the development of Advanced Astronomy.

Lastly, William C. I'm not sure where you get your quotes, but you might want to dig a little deeper into the biographies of some of these men, particularly Lincoln. I find it interesting that you ascribe to the idea that "all thinking men are atheists" and, conversely, anyone who believes in God cannot think and is stupid. Many, many highly intelligent people, including great philosophers (thinkers by definition), scientists (I'm not talking about modern scientists), revolutionaries and others were at the very least Deists, if not Christians. Seems to me YOU are the one who's intolerant of others and their ideas.

Oh, one other thing. You mentioned a while back (I've been busy and not had a chance to read this site in a while) that Genesis contradicts itself because it says God created plants before the sun, stating that it's impossible for plant life to survive without the sun. Well, you're right on one count -- the plants were created before sun. HOWEVER, God create LIGHT BEFORE He created plants. The sun is just a giant star. It's not light itself. Plants need LIGHT, not the sun, to survive. If they had to have the sun, you couldn't grow a plant in a windowless building, which happens all the time in college science labs.

That's a groovy little assumption you're making. I'm sorry but the reason I'm attacking Christianity here is because it's the biggest threat to this country and our freedom. The Christian church has continually attempted to rewrite history and church leaders are trying to make this a Christian Theocracy by "reclaiming America for christ."

It has nothing to do with anything that ever happened in my past. I was an atheist for as long as I can remember, even though I was taken to church and such. At 5 years old I recognized how absurd it was to believe any of the fairy tales that are the basis of christianity.

For your information, if I was a European citizen, I would be spending my time speaking out against Islam, which is just as bent on world domination as christianity. The only difference between the two is that in modern times christianity as an organization is using political channels while Islam is still using violent methods to do so.

The problem with religion is that while some of the individuals in the congregation may be decent people, the majority are sheep that blindly follow the extremist leaders of the church.

Religion, namely the Monastic ones like christianity and islam have done nothing to make mankind loving, peaceful, or tolerant, but instead have brutalized mankind, and caused hatred, intolerance, and ignorance to fester throughout society.

Eliminating this problem, while it won't immediately make the world peaceful, is the first step in achieving true peace, justice, and tolerance for mankind. It will be one less thing for people to be killed over or because of.
