STOCKDALE -- Dudley Underwood and Casey Crow took top honors in the high-point roping and high-point kids’ events, respectively, at the third annual Buck Taylor South Central Texas Independent Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) Benefit Roping held in the city park’s roping arena July 19.

Underwood was awarded a saddle sponsored by Jim Chandler of Arroyo Seco Whitetails for his effort.

Other winners of the roping event include the team of Dudley Underwood and Gary Mills, who placed first and were awarded belt buckles sponsored by Tuttle Motor Co. and Baring Cattle Co. Josh Espehoven and Pety Brown received spurs, sponsored by Bar T Dozer Service and A.L. “Windy” and Laurie Miller, for placing second.

Dudley Underwood partnered with Jeff Daughtery to win third place and was awarded breast collars sponsored by Ancira Ford. He then teamed with Dusty Jahns to take fourth-place honors to win bronc halters, sponsored by Discovery Custom Homes and Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Richard L. “Dickie” Jackson, Wilson County Judge Marvin Quinney, and Wilson County Pct. 4 Commissioner Larry Wiley.

The team of Scott Baker and David Tieken placed fifth, and were awarded rope bags for their skills, sponsored by Discovery Site Work and Frost Bank. Baker also teamed with Clay Applewhite to successfully garner sixth place to win headstalls sponsored by Lube Works.

Josh Espehoven and Pety Brown were awarded New Mojo header and heeler ropes sponsored by Cactus Ropes for finishing with the fastest time in the first round of competition.

Kid’s events
Casey Crow was awarded top honors by placing first in the mutton bustin’, stick-horse race, and the dummy-roping contest (for ages 8 and under).

Carmella Marshall placed third in two events -- mutton bustin’ and stick-horse race. Reagan Preshong placed second in the stick-horse race and the dummy-roping contest for ages 8 and under.

Other children placing included Cade Gulick, second in the mutton bustin’ contest, and Wyatt Miller, who placed third in the dummy-roping event for ages 8 and under.

Dummy-roping winners in the age-9-and-over division included Dalton Brown, who placed first; Kody Ynfante, second; and Jalen Moore, third.

Sponsors for the children’s events included Texaloy Foundry for the mutton bustin’ event and First National Bank for the stick-horse races, with Helena Chemical Co. of Jourdanton and H-E-B sponsoring the dummy-roping events.

Double Bar M Ranch and the Miller family sponsored the refreshments.
