Local scholar witnesses inauguration

EAST CENTRAL -- Elliott Rivas, a junior in the early college program at East Central High School, was part of history in the making Jan. 20, while participating in a five-day national conference.
By invitation of the Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference, Elliott attended the inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C., along with other outstanding students selected to participate.
A member of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council Alumni Association and the National Society of High School Scholars, Elliott spent five days, from Jan. 17-21, attending inaugural activities.
This was not his first trip to Washington. Elliott traveled there in spring 2008 to attend the National Young Leadership Conference.
Elliott is the son of Manuel and Carmen Rivas. He has two siblings, Emmanuel and Isabel.
He also represents East Central High School as a member of the swim team. |
