According to The Handbook of Texas Online, the brigade was formed Oct. 22, 1861. It saw action in at least 24 battles in 1862 during the U.S. Civil War and served as part of Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia and James Longstreet’s First Corps. The brigade sustained a 61-percent casualty rate. Survivors held 63 reunions between 1872 and 1933, when the last two physically able veterans met for the last time in Houston. |
