"You may be asking who is Pat Dixon. I am the chairman of the Libertarian Party of Texas and I want to that Travis for inviting the Libertarian Party to be here tonight and participate with you"
"I notice in the tea parties that our staff participated in in Austin, the tea party in San Antonio where I was earlier, and the tea party here tonight that a lot of focus is on the federal government, and rightly so. The federal government over years and years has gone well beyond the limits of the Constitution. A lot of focus is also directed at the state capital. Yesterday I testified before a state senate committee to oppose a bill that would further erode our individual rights. There are busloads of people every day going to our state capital to testify and lobby"
"I notice there is a city hall building behind this courthouse. When is the last time you went to a city council meeting? Maybe some of you do. I have never met your mayor our council members. Maybe they are good people. Maybe they are trying to lower your taxes. Maybe they are trying to reduce government spending. Maybe they are fiscally conservative like me. I don't know"
"What I do know is that I am serving my second term on city council in Lago Vista. It is about the size of Floresville, just northwest of Austin, so I have a long drive home tonight. Tomorrow night I will make a motion to repeal a tax on the tourism industry in Lago Vista. My expectation is that it will not pass. Why? Because I will not have a crowd of people like you coming to support me. If I have support, we can repeal taxes like this. If I don't, we will continue to be taxed."
"So continue to watch Washington. Continue to watch the state capital. But remember, you have a city hall right back here." |
