Do We Have A Crisis Weary America?

Harlingen, Texas, June 22, 2009: You can hear the murmurs at the Koffee Klatch each morning when farmers gather to talk about their crops and concerns about our government. You can hear the same thing being expressed by businessmen at Rotary luncheon meetings. It doesn’t even escape the casual comments offered in conversations following women’s Bible Study gatherings. Americans are really starting to get weary of constantly hearing the Obama Administration’s chatter about what the Democrats perceive as our latest and greatest crisis.
It started before the election last November, grew in volume following Inauguration Day and has been a steady drumbeat from that day foreword. We had the Wall Street Crisis of major financial markets. We had the AIG Insurance Crisis and its multiple meltdowns in almost every aspect of our economy. We had the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Crisis and along with it the Mortgage Crisis. That had not cooled before we had the Bank Crisis, which was also multi-urgent because it brought about a Credit Crisis. We can’t forget about the Chrysler Crisis and the General Motors Crisis that brought about a host of mini-crisis concerns from lost jobs to lost shareholder value to downturns in the economies of cities where dealerships were closed.
While we were trying to rationalize all of these misfortunes in our already overloaded minds, the verbal attacks on citizen sanity continued. We are consuming too much energy and this means we have an Energy Crisis and “must” move to alternative energy sources. But, before we can chew on that problem there is a Bonus Crisis to contend with and a Compensation Crisis that has too many senior executives making too much money.
But don’t forget the Climate Crisis while busy worrying about all these other huge problems. After all we have a very significant Carbon Footprint Crisis. We can solve that with a reduction of that carbon footprint through paying cap-and-trade or special carbon taxes. What about the FHA Crisis and the warnings its health and solvency are at risk. Perhaps the Sub-Prime Mortgage Holders Bailout Crisis really needs our attention.
There has been a warning and an announcement of a Drywall Crisis triggered by Chinese drywall imports that release unknown particles and may be a health risk. The Obama Clan does not stop here. It constantly reminds us we have an Education Crisis, a Student Loan Crisis, a major concern about the California Crisis that is heading the state into bankruptcy, the Immigration Crisis, and a crisis in waiting as the Democrats try to force a vote to eliminate the secret ballot at companies attempting to form unions. While we worry about all those homegrown issues, don’t forget, we still have the Border Security Crisis, the Iran Crisis, the North Korea Crisis and our Iraq-Afghanistan Crisis. All of these concerns have retriggered the 3 AM Telephone Call Crisis.
Getting, by far, the direst warning of all is our Healthcare Crisis. We can’t get past a single news cycle without being hit about everything health-wise teetering on the brink of collapse. If we don’t solve it right now, no matter what the cost, we will lose everything this country has been trying to build since 1776. While at it, let us add in the unbelievable Deficit Crisis that has already robbed our children and grandchildren of their futures.
Have all of these dire warnings made us tone deaf to what is going on in our country? Has the constant threat of a new and different crisis blinded us to how much control the government is seeking? Or do we now have a crisis weary America that is just giving up…and giving in? |
