The Republicans weren't voted out because they were the party of no, they were voted out because they were too much like the Democrats and people wanted a change. Because the Dems say "yes" to everything they propose, without thought or review, someone has to say "No". The republicans, maybe too late, are listening to their constituents, the dems, don't appear to be. This is what go them in trouble in the 90s when they last lost their leadership role.

How does any person know what the Cap and Trade (or Tax as many of us believe)Bill contained if no one READ the darn thing? I am upset with Cuellar for his yes vote. I, too, emailed his office twice before the vote, pleading with him not to vote for this thing. The last 300 pages were slid into the box at 3 AM on the day of the vote---I watched the entire process that day. It was sickening to me--it made me feel like our representatives were not listening to their constituents (polls were revealing 20 to 1 against the bill) and were acting in the most unresponsible way possible. Pelosi stood there, blinking, and, as usual, babbled about "jobs, jobs, jobs!" There won't be any jobs, but government jobs, if this thing gets past the Senate. There's more to this than special interests, be they ag, health, energy, environmental--whatever. It was the whole package that we needed to be concerned about---and the House, in my opinion, dropped the ball miserably.
Would you allow a surgeon to operate on you if he had not thoroughly researched your history, x-rays, MRIs, CAT Scans, lab work, and LISTENED to you BEFORE he cut you open? I seriously doubt it. So, what's the difference between this surgical example and that of the clueless representatives?
When our country is led by those who fail to pursue due diligence, who sway with the political winds in order to be re-elected, then we, the people, must be the responsible ones--we need to get busy now, review how these representatives and senators are voting, and if they are not doing the job, use our most treasured weapon--our vote-- to really put change into action! As for Cuellar---the jury is still out for me. A lot depends on what he personally does with health care.

If you think about it, its extremely dangerous for the country. We need an opposition party, and we dont have one. The GOP imploded -- no serious or intellectual conservative wants to be pooled up with Palin and Joe the Plumber.. its a very slippery slope.

I voted for Cuallar. And I called his office two times before the vote to register my opinion. I don't think he cared what the voter thought.

So, if you disagree with the Cap and Trade idea, did you just stay quiet to avoid being called the party of no or were you one of the many calls urging a no vote from your representative? It seems silly to criticise Travis's blog when you agree with him on this legislation, don't you think?

You are 100% correct, the representatives should do what their constituents want, or represent them in the best way they are able to.

We have no evidence that the people who actually voted for cuellar do not want this package.

I personally do not agree with the cap and trade proposal, I do not believe it will be effective in curbing carbon output. That said, I do believe there are man made envorinmental issues we can address= specifically I strongly favor stricter cafe standards. I mean really, that is the core of the problem.

It is our money and the people who voted for Cuellar want him to stop spending it. In another blog you ragged on a lot of us for complaining about representatives in other states. Now that people are rightfully complaining about their own representative, you don't approve of that either. So here is the question. What do you think about cap and trade?

Again you're advocating a yes vote to legislation that neither you or the good congressman knows what's ii contains.

"Auto-Reject" worked great for the Democrats for 6 of the last 8 years. Now they have full control. Why not let the GOP use it now?
