Sunflower Senior Care opens doors
August 11, 2009 | 2 comments
FLORESVILLE -- Sunflower Senior Care is a personal-care home for seniors, retired veterans, and their surviving spouses, providing an option to a traditional nursing home setting.
Services to seniors include 24-hour supervision, medication assistance, transportation, and daily living needs, according to owner Mary Jane Ximenez. She started the business in June 2009 to provide an affordable alternative to long-term care, which can be costly.
“With careful planning, we can assist you and protect your income and your assets,” Ximenez said.
Sunflower Senior Care strives to allow seniors to keep their independence, contributing to their quality of life and ability to enjoy their retirement years.
The facility offers private and semi-private rooms with handicapped accessibility and remote-accessible beds. Residents can enjoy vegetable gardens, flower beds, and outdoor sitting areas, Ximenez said. Daily meals are provided, as well as on-site laundry and housekeeping services, entertainment, arts and crafts, and more. Assistance is available for bathing, dressing, and personal grooming. Religious services are available on-site, or transportation can be provided to others.
Ximenez is a Floresville native. She gained experience in elder care while helping her parents, who owned and operated an adult foster-care home. The Floresville High School graduate has worked with the San Antonio State Hospital and the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. She is a licensed life and health agent and holds a certified assisted living manager designation.
Sunflower Senior Care is located at 902 Seventh St. in Floresville.
