That $9.95 Legal Form from the Office Supply Store Could Cost You Thousands!
Let me be clear about this. I hope I anger the office supply stores management. I also hope I am so effective that the office supply stores will run out of customers willing to buy those forms.
The only time I would use one is if my lawyer advised me to do so.
So, the family has a real estate/legal issue and Uncle Charlie says. “Go to the office supply store so you can avoid the cost of a lawyer.”
Fact: Uncle Charlie is an idiot!
Fact: That $9.95 legal form might cost you thousands in the future. One mistake based on Uncle Charlie’s advice could get you sued, result in expensive legal fees many times what a lawyer would have charged to do it right.
Fact: Uncle Charlie will not be there to cover the cost of your bad judgment!
Fact: Did I say Uncle Charlie is an idiot?
Now, if you decide to be an idiot’s disciple, don’t blame anyone but yourself. If you have a simple real estate transaction, use a lawyer. If you have a moderate to complicated real estate issue, use a real estate, or estate planner attorney.
I am a Realtor® and do not give legal advice. I do say call a lawyer when you have a real estate issue that involves a trust, change in title, wills, exclusions or additions to wills, disclosures or most other legal issues. When Uncle Charlie starts to put his two cents in, give him a six pack and a seat in front of a television. Remember! Uncle Charlie is an idiot! |
