In an effort to forego rhetoric in favor of informed discussion, the Austin Tea Party Patriots, which is affiliated with the San Antonio Tea Party, will host a “Healthcare Town Hall” August 20, 2009 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM in San Antonion at a venue to be announced. Headed by Dr. Clare L. Gray of the non-profit organization Physicians for Reform, the Town Hall will focus on “Finding a New Way Forward” -- a program for healthcare reform that focuses on maintaining the physician-patient relationship within a structure that benefits all Americans. This Town Hall meeting will be an opportunity for San Antonians to hear constructive alternatives to currently proposed national healthcare legislation -- alternatives which give decision making authority to people, rather than to a bureaucracy. There will be information about how these alternative proposals would allow inclusion of the chronically uninsured, and how healthcare can be made more cost affordable to everyone.
Matt Perdue of the San Antonio Tea Party, added, “This Town Hall is a time to leave our ‘for’ and ‘against’ signs at home and focus on learning about real alternatives. There will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of the presenters. We have invited leaders of the Democratic Party of Texas to fill half of the available seats and others from non-partisan conservative groups, as well as the Republican Party and the Libertarian Party, to fill the other half. We are requiring that all attendees come to learn and participate peacefully. Although we will not have politicians in speaking roles, we have invited our local Congressional representatives and encourage their attendance.”
The San Antonio Tea Party is a diverse group of individuals united by shared core values. We believe in Fiscal Responsibility, Limited Government, and Adherence to the Constitution. The San Antonio Tea Party also recognizes the strength of grassroots organizing powered by activism and civic responsibility at a local level. Physicians for Reform is a non-profit organization founded by Dr. C. L. Gray in December 2006 to find solutions for American healthcare. Working together, physicians, patients, and the business community can recapture the heart of medicine and secure a political platform to reform American healthcare.
