Homemade goodies and more at Rhew Orchard House
October 13, 2009 | Comment on this article
The Rhew Farm has again diversified, with the addition of a commercial kitchen. In May, Rhew Orchard House was established, offering homemade pies and cobblers.
Many people might recognize Rhew Orchard House as part of Rhew Orchards, established in the early 1980s by Frank Rhew and his wife, Ann. They are known for their peach and pecan orchards. Their son, Rudd, and his wife, Judy Pfeil Rhew, are the third generation involved in this venture.
Ann and Judy operate Rhew Orchard House, with Frank and Rudd maintaining the orchards.
Pies and cobblers are made to order. Customers need to call ahead to place orders. Other items available at the Rhew Orchard House include pecans, jams, and decorative kitchen items.
Frank and Ann have been members of the business community for the past 35 years. Frank and his father began Rhew Farm as a cattle and hay operation. Ann previously taught elementary school in the Floresville Independent School District.
Both Rudd and his wife were born and raised in Floresville. They have a 5-month-old son, James. Judy is a former high school special-education teacher, having taught in Karnes City. Today, she is a stay-at-home mom, assisting Ann with Rhew Orchard House.
Rhew Orchard House will be open for the holiday season from Tuesday, Oct. 27. The business will offer special treats, such as chocolate pecan clusters, pecan brittle, and pecan fudge. In addition to its range of pies and cobblers to order, gifts baskets will be available for the holiday season.
Rhew Orchard House is located at 762 C.R. 403, east of Floresville.
