Students at La Vernia Primary School have been having a “howling” good time. Of the 650 students, 548 have read the book After Happily Ever After, Mr. Wolf Bounces Back and have read it forward to others in the community. The goal is for all students to read the book by Christmas.

The entire student body decorated a T-shirt Oct. 16, choosing either a pig or a wolf and using hand prints to paint their shirt. The project was successful thanks to parent volunteers helping with painting the shirts, teachers passing out the shirts, and students being on their best behavior. Students wore their shirts on Oct. 23 to the Royal Rally. Special guests at the rally were Dr. Tom Harvey, superintendent, and Director of Special Education Donna Kubena. Dr. Harvey was presented with a "Read It Forward" book and was challenged to read it and pass it on to an employee in the school's central office. Kubena, a former assistant principal at the primary school, is now in the central office. She was presented with a painted T-shirt to remember her time at La Vernia Primary School.

The first “Read It Forward” venture was very successful. Teachers enjoyed it so much, they selected additional books to use within their grade level as “Read It Forward” books. With this program, students are learning how much fun it is to share the excitement of a good book.
