The fifth annual Fall Fest takes place Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14, in River Park in Floresville. The two-day event, sponsored by the Floresville Chamber of Commerce and the Tourists and Visitors Center, is jam-packed with activities for the entire family. From the IBCA-sanctioned barbecue cook-off to mutton bustin’ for the kids, there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy.

The cook-off begins Friday night, with a jackpot cook-off for chili and a Dutch-oven dessert. Volunteers are still being sought to judge the cook-off. Turn-in times are 6 p.m. for chili and 7 p.m. for the dessert.

While the “big guys” are cooking, the “little guys” get their chance to win in the Kids Cook-off, featuring barbecued pork chops. Turn-in time is 8 p.m.
A free dance Friday at 8 p.m. under the new pavilion will feature local country-music artist Rick Reyna. Reyna recently wowed the audience at the Consolata Healthcare Foundation’s Casino Night last July.

On Saturday, while the cookers are perfecting their entries, there will be plenty of food and arts and crafts booths to enjoy. A car show will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with trophies going to the “viewer’s choice” winners.

The Boys & Girls Club of Wilson County will sponsor several game booths for the kids, while adults can participate in horseshoe and washer tournaments, with sign-up at 11 a.m. Activities will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including a mechanical bull, paintball arcade, a climbing rock wall, face painting, a train, riding ponies, and much more.

Always a favorite with kids and adults alike, mutton bustin’ and a calf scramble will be held on Saturday, with sign-up at 1 p.m. For details, call Laurie at 210-326-1533.

Saturday’s turn-in times for the cook-off are 11 a.m. for beans, noon for chicken, 1:30 p.m. for ribs, and 3 p.m. for brisket. After the lucky judges get to taste all the goodies, awards will be presented at approximately 5 p.m.

The Floresville Parks Foundation will hold its first fund-raiser, a 5K run, beginning in the River Park on Saturday. Registration is at 7:30 a.m., with the race beginning at 8 a.m. For more information, call Keith Rodgers at 830-391-4469.

For more information, to sign up as a vendor, or to enter or volunteer at the cook-off, call Traci at the chamber of commerce at 830-393-0074.
