1947-2009

Dionicio “Dennis” Rocha Jr., a resident of Floresville, Texas, entered eternal rest Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at 7:18 p.m. in the Texsan Heart Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 62 years, 8 months, and 19 days.

Dennis was born Feb. 24, 1947, in Poth, the son of Consuelo Gonzales and Dionicio Rocha Sr.

He grew up in West Texas and his family returned to Poth when he was 16 years old. He left Poth High School to enlist in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Dennis worked as a butcher for many years at several meat markets, including Wiatrek’s, Texas Provater, and Megas Supermarkets. He retired and soon thereafter became a licensed insurance agent, selling insurance for American National for many years.

In March 1992, he moved to Floresville to be with his companion, Carrie Perez. Dennis was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville. He also enjoyed fishing and shooting pool, and established a lawn-care business in his spare time. One of his greatest loves was music, and for many years he would sing and accompany his brothers, who played the guitar. Recently, he became interested in learning to play the guitar and he taught himself to play.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Reynaldo Rocha; a brother, Ramiro Rocha Sr.; and a nephew, John Henry Rocha.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Gomez Perez of Floresville; a son, Joel Rocha and wife Carrie of Poth; a daughter, Yvette Rocha of San Antonio; stepchildren Cindy Herrera, Alex Perez III, and Mark Perez; his granddaughters, Heather, Allison, and Amy Rocha; his brothers, Ramon Rocha of San Antonio and Fermin Rocha and Armando Rocha, both of Andrews; his sisters, Janie Rocha Garza and Josephina Rocha, both of Floresville, and Julia Gonzales of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation began at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, officiated by Father Phillip Henning.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville. Serving as pallbearers were Fermin Rocha, Mando Rocha, Chris Rocha, Joe Angel Garza, Jesus Martinez, Albert Garces, Ramiro Rocha Jr., and Joe Reyna.
