Men, give the razor a vacation. Ladies of Wilson County, break out the needles and thread or dig through Great-Grandma’s trunk of vintage clothes. Centenarians, start counting your birthday candles.

To celebrate the county’s 150th birthday, the Wilson County Sesquicentennial Committee is sponsoring several contests. Prizes will be awarded in each.

Men are invited to grow out their beards, mustaches, and sideburns, and females of all ages should find or make and don their best bonnets, all in readiness for the Bushy Beards and Bonnets Contest, planned for Feb. 13, 2010.

Area residents who will be more than 100 years young by 2010 are invited to participate in the celebration, too.

There is no cost to enter any of the categories.

Entry forms are available in this newspaper. Completed forms should be mailed to LaJuana Newnam-Leus, 1314 Seventh St., Floresville, TX 78114. For more information, call 830-393-2166.

Sesquicentennial Com-mittee members are LaJuana Newnam-Leus, 830-393-2166; Shirley and John Grammer, 830-947-3176; Maurine Liles, 830-393-4959; and Gene Maeckel, 830-484-2536.

The Sesquicentennial Committee is organizing celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of Wilson County. Anyone interested in helping with one of the celebration committees is invited to contact one of these individuals.
