Harlingen, Texas, March 10, 2010: When we wrote about the liberal political control of higher education there was not a single denial from any teacher organization or faculty group. The reason they remained silent is clear. The left to far left not only control the vast majority of the more than 4,000 degree granting institutions in America, they dominate the ranks of staff and faculty on those campuses. In some cases those of liberal political views are holding down more than 80% of the teaching positions.

Those who think this serious problem only involves higher education really miss the point of the message. Young people attending college move into the educational, financial and professional world, bringing with them the skills, conceptions and philosophies they have learned as undergraduates. Many become elementary and secondary education teachers, where they pass on their liberal indoctrination to those children they have been given to train and advance in knowledge.

Sara Sanders of Houston, Texas writes that the actual liberal indoctrination of children really starts in kindergarten. She gives the example of how her family has been taught Christian values, but upon entering this initial level of public education a sustained program to reduce parental influence was undertaken. An example she used was in school her children were told “Mother Earth” created us all and that we should love and never harm any living thing, including trees. “Though a junior high or a high school student may appreciate the symbolism”, she says, “a five year old takes that literally.” There was a solution to the problem. Now the Sanders children have joined thousands upon thousands of other American children who are now being home schooled.

Another Texan, Bill Bentley says, “Our upper level education institutions are completely infested with, liberals, the spawn of the hippie generation, communists and America haters. Our undergraduate and graduate schools are cesspools and our kids don’t have a chance. Our President should be dancing with glee at all the Democrats being bred in our schools. Now he wants more kids going to college, even though 49% of entering freshmen need remedial courses and many high schools want to lower the failing grade to 40%.”

Reminding everyone the problems we have with education have been around a long time, Max Wix writes, “This didn’t start yesterday. I have friends who graduated from high school some years ago…and when they went back for adult classes, tested out at reading at the 3rd grade level.” He continues saying, “No wonder the educational institutions are pushing to stop using the SAT scores. The only way most can pass it now is to take remedial classes on how to take the test. A tragedy.”

Shirley Cobb of St. Petersburg, Florida is a strong advocate of small private colleges. “There are dozens of colleges around the country that have strong education programs and teach traditional American values. There are also faith based colleges and some with Christian or Jewish programs. Many are listed on the Internet and rated very high academically. Perhaps more families should be looking in that direction when seeking higher education for their children.”

Mike Beggs is a retired Marine Captain living in Virginia. He writes that liberalism had started to invade college campuses, including the very conservative Texas A&M University when he was an undergraduate in 1968. His recommendation to start fixing the problem calls upon the old military clan to assume a new role. “I think the only answer is that those of us who are now ‘old’ must do our best to become public school teachers, regardless of the toll it takes on our health or finances.” He feels this is very important because, “these liberal kids will become our leaders. If that occurs, we are lost. That’s not a prediction, but an observation.”

If conservatives ever manage to regain the majority in Congress, one course of action they should take is create legislation to obtain equal balance of political ideology on all campuses from elementary school through college. As thinking individuals it is impossible not to show the bias of their beliefs regardless of how they teach. By a requirement of equal numbers of conservative, independent and liberal faculty members to be employed, at least a wide range of information would be passed on to our students.
