HEADLINE: CPS ENERGY DONATES 2,375 FANS

CPS Energy Volunteers in Public Service (VIPS), San Antonio’s gas and electric utility employee volunteer corps, today delivered 2,375 box fans to the community-wide Project Cool campaign to help disadvantaged Bexar County senior citizens 60 and older beat the South Texas heat. During a four-week drive, CPS Energy employees donated more than $30,000 to purchase six truckloads of fans ....

BETWEEN: Since donating fans has become a big story every summer, the question that seems obvious is, what happens to these fans? Are they disposable, only lasting for the one summer? Or do we have that many additional seniors each summer? Eventually, it would seem that every senior has a fan, would it not? Perhaps we should donate only American-made products that will last for more than one season.

HEADLINE: SOME OIL SPILL EVENTS ON FRIDAY, JUNE 25

By The Associated Press (AP) A summary of events Friday, June 25, Day 66 of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that began with the April 20 explosion and fire on the drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, owned by Transocean Ltd. and leased by BP PLC, which is in charge of cleanup and containment. The blast killed 11 workers. Since then, oil has been pouring into the Gulf from a blown-out undersea well.

More dirty evidence of the massive oil spill washed ashore along the Gulf Coast for residents who don't need any more reminders of their frustration over failed efforts to stop the crude gushing from a blown-out undersea well. In Florida, officials on Thursday closed a quarter-mile stretch of Pensacola Beach not far from the Alabama line when thick pools of oil washed up, the first time a beach in the state has been shut because of the spill. A large patch of oil oozed into Mississippi Sound, the fertile waters between the barrier islands and mainland of a state that has mostly been spared.

BETWEEN: It’s curious that the only thing environmentalists seem to be focusing on is preventing future drilling. One would think that the top priority would be capping the well and CLEANING UP THE MESS, even if this involves Dutch technology, barges that may not be certified by the federal government, or other foreign offers to help with the spill. Rather, there has been relatively little said in the main stream media and by environmental groups regarding the CLEANUP. It’s all about controlling drilling and controlling the oil companies.

Yes! It is all about CONTROL. ...
