Offer condolences


Ottie Mildred Wheeler passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 101.

She was born on Nov. 17, 1908, in Fannin County to James Alfonso and Flora Morgan Ferrell.

The Ferrell family moved from Fannin County to Quanah in 1926. Mildred marred Charles Leonard Wheeler in 1929. She lived in Quanah until 1955, when she moved to El Paso, remaining there until 1990. She retired from Sears Roebuck while in El Paso. Mildred was very active in the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. After moving to Fredericksburg in 1990, Mildred resided with family in San Antonio until 2006.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Wheeler; and a son, James. Also preceding Mildred in death were four brothers, Curtis, Percy, George, and Neal; and a sister, Velma Lorene.

She is survived by her son, Charles Wheeler and wife Betty of San Antonio; her grandchildren, Leighanna Bacon Lane, Lauren Bacon Lambert, Lindsay Bacon, and A.J. Ashworth; one great-grandson, Jacob Lane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held in the Franklin Funeral Home in Floresville on Thursday, July 15.

Funeral services followed at 3 p.m. in the First Christian Church in Quanah on Friday. The Rev. Wayne Hollinshead officiated.

Interment followed in the Quanah Memorial Cemetery.
