The deadline to submit a letter to the future for inclusion in the Wilson County Sesquicentennial time capsule is Wednesday, Sept. 15.

The Wilson County Sesquicentennial Committee invites letters from county residents to be included in a time capsule to be buried Sept. 25, as the county’s 150th birthday celebration draws to a close.

Anyone can write a letter to put in the capsule. Children can write to their future selves, school superintendents and mayors are invited to write to their future counterparts, parents can write to their children, and so on.

Letters written in 1960 and interred with the county’s time capsule that year will be opened and read in September. During the ceremony, the old time capsule will be dug up and replaced by a new one, which will remain in the ground for the next 50 years.

“... we are notifying the mayors, councils, commissioners, and superintendents, etc. ... that a letter to their counterparts would be a thought ... or their families, or just anyone they wish to receive or read it,” Sesquicentennial Committee member LaJuana Newnam-Leus said.

Letters can be submitted to a member of the Sesquicentennial Committee. There is also a drop box in the Wilson County News office at 1012 C St.
