The Nov. 2 mid-term election was not the end; rather it was a beginning.
It is not the end because there are likely to be contentious races that are so close they will result in recounts.
It is the beginning because now that a change in congress has been made, it is up to Congress to figure out how to deal with the newcomers, and Americans are watching.
One such close contest is in Alaska where a three-way-race may not be decided until next week or when absentee ballots are finally counted. Election returns on Tuesday showed Sen. Lisa Murkowski's in the lead with her historic write-in campaign. After losing to Joe Miller in the Republican Primary, Murkowski filed as an independent write-in. Although she is now ahead, the absentee ballots will not be counted until next week, beginning on Tuesday. There were 30,000 ballots mailed out.
This will surely be one of the most contentious battles as there are many technicalities in counting the write-ins and determining which ones are valid and which will be tossed out.
Meanwhile, President Barack Obama addressed the nation today telling Americans that he gets the message. That’s what he said, but it remains to be seen.
For Republicans who took over control of the House with the Nov. 2 election, the question is, did they get the message? Do they understand what the message is?
The message is that Americans do not want politics as usual, but what do they want?
They want change.
In fact, they voted for change during the last election. That’s when they got Barack Obama. Voters in 2008 were just HOPING for change, but soon realized that it was not the right kind of change.
Now it's up to the Republicans to figure out the game plan for making the right change.
The pressure is on from both sides, and there’s a good chance that Americans could be caught in the middle.
We hope not. |
