The South Central Texas Independent Cattlemen’s Association (SCTICA) directors will sponsor its first meeting of 2011 Thursday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the American Legion Hall, located at 1412 Fourth St. in Floresville.

All interested area cattlemen and concerned rural-area dwellers are encouraged to attend. A complimentary barbecued beef dinner will be served. Non-members are welcome to attend.

The night’s agenda includes the election of 2011 directors and officers, and a recap of 2010 activities and accomplishments.

Attendees will be given a chance to address which issues the directors should pursue in 2011, and be informed where the cattle industry may be headed.

Texas Independent Cattle-men’s Association Executive Director W.V. “Bill” Hyman and state secretary A.L. “Windy” Miller will update the cattlemen of the happenings in the last quarter of 2010 and what issues will be challenging cattlemen in the near future.

The cattlemen, who began this association in 1974, saw the need for a unified effort to not only promote but also to sustain the cattle industry. The majority of cattlemen are small ranchers, and small, rural towns need them to succeed. The economics of that town are directly related to the farmers and ranchers in their area.
