Billy Foster, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at home with his family in Spring Branch, Texas. He was known by everyone as a caring, loving, funny, and giving man. Bill was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Runnels County, outside of Winters, to Dee Joshua and Loneta Ethel Self.
Bill served in the U.S. Army with the 739th Engineer Heavy Shop Company in the Philippine Islands during World War II. A barber for more than 50 years, Bill owned several barber shops all over San Antonio and the surrounding area. He was a member of the Floresville Church of Christ, where he had many brothers and sisters who meant a lot to him. He also attended the Blanco Church of Christ while he lived in Blanco for a short time.
Bill loved spending time with his family and friends and stayed very active in his community. He will be missed deeply and will always be cherished by his family.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brenda Collins, in 2010.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lillie S. Lobdell Foster; his brother, JD “Rusty” Foster; and Lillie’s three daughters, Sidni Wickliffe, Marthelyn Denman, and Marcella Murrah. He also left behind his grandchildren who, to him, were very beloved. They are Sharon Engelke, Darren Grey, Debra Davis, and Chuck Hopkins. Bill, known as Paw Paw, or Poppy, also had many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews spread all over the country.
Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. in the Crofts Funeral Home in Blanco.
A funeral service was held Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers were
