Eva Adelene Johnson passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at 1:35 a.m. in Floresville, Texas, after a very short hospital stay.

Adelene was born to Edgar and Irma Nolia Pace Vorpahl on July 22, 1929, in Fort Bend County. She married John David “JD” Johnson on Sept. 13, 1957, in Victoria, and lived in Beeville for a few years. JD was transferred by the U.S. Navy to Rhode Island and then to Tennessee. They finally moved to Virginia, where he retired in 1966. They then lived seven years in Oklahoma and finally moved back to Beeville in 1973, where he worked with the Civil Service at NAS Chase Field from 1973-89.

She was one of Beeville’s first policewomen as she worked in the Beeville Police Station in her younger days. However, most of her time was spent raising her seven children. These include Bobby Kennedy and husband Pat of Floresville, Thomas “Butch” Booth and wife Karen of Oklahoma City, Okla., Stephanie Dysart and husband Fred of Williamston, N.C., Joan Stamps and husband Paul of Duncan, Okla., John Johnson Jr. and wife Lisa of Beeville, Jeff Johnson and wife Rhonda of Adkins, and Alison Butts and husband Devin of Floresville. She is also survived by her sister, Nita Tucker of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Adelene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers; and two sisters.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beeville and put her trust in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She will be greatly missed here, but will surely be waiting to meet us all in heaven one day.

The homegoing celebration for Adelene was held Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at 4 p.m. in the Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville, with family gathering the evening of Jan. 3 from 5-7 p.m. in the Angelus Funeral Chapel.

Interment followed in the Beeville Memorial Park in Beeville.
