Floresville Tigers move to district play

The Floresville Tigers lost their final two nondistrict games, which were played last week, as their season record fell to 16 wins and 8 losses.

The Tigers will start District 30-4A action this Friday evening with a home game against the Beeville Trojans. On Tuesday evening, Jan. 18, the Tigers will have another home game against the Victoria East Titans. All basketball fans are encouraged to attend these two home district games.

Last Tuesday evening, the Tigers traveled to Lanier and fell by a score of 67-59. Estevan Mendiola had a big evening for the Tigers as he led the team with 34 points, while Dominque De Walt scored 7 points, Colton Wallace, 6; Robert Regalado, 6; Richie Asevedo, 4; and Josh Barnard, 3. Lanier held a 34-24 lead at the half.

The Tigers traveled to South San on Friday evening and were defeated by the Bobcats by the score of 55-46. Mendiola was high-point man again with 13 points, while De Walt had 10, Wallace, 7; Charlie Albert, 5; Bobby Lusk, 5; Regalado, 4; and Barnard, 2; The Tigers trailed by 22-17 at the half.

In the final week of December, the Tigers participated in the Calallen Tournament in Corpus Christi. In the first round, the Tigers lost to Edinburg by the score of 68-60, putting them in the consolation bracket. The Tigers came back to defeat Alice by the score of 65-37 and Santa Rosa 65-47 to put them into the consolation finals. In the consolation championship game, the Tigers defeated Corpus Christi Flour Bluff 44-38 to win their third consolation championship of the season. Congratulations, Tigers!

Tigers could have a good team if coaches would allow equal opportunity to all players.
