Offer condolences

Robert Henry Wahne Sr., a lifelong farmer-rancher of Elmendorf, Texas, peacefully left this world on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011.

He was born on March 3, 1926, and was raised in the southeast Bexar County community of Elmendorf. He graduated from Elmendorf High School and joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific during World War II and acquiring leadership and cooking skills.

After his military stint, he married the love of his life, Grace Evans, and enjoyed 56 years of marriage.

Robert spent his life following his dream as a farmer and rancher. He was an avid supporter of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, and put his leadership abilities to work in leading the Parish Council and the annual festivals for many years. His culinary skills were utilized for more than 30 years as the barbecue chair for the festivals. Robert was generous to all, and never could say “no” to those in need.

He is survived by his son, Bob Wahne and wife Susan; his daughters, Marilyn Magaro and husband Tony, and Joan Saucedo and husband Bob; his grandchildren, Anthony Magaro and wife Kristi, Lindsay Magaro, Megan Saucedo, Jenna Saucedo, Bridget Wahne of Virginia, and Mary Baker and husband Joe of Midland; and his great-grandchildren, Madison and Bella Magaro and Alexander Baker.

The Wahne family would like to express special thanks to friends, Dr. Mark Isaeff, and the staff at Manor Care on Briar Ridge in San Antonio for their loving care and continued support.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 6:30 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7:30 p.m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Elmendorf.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the church.

Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Cemetery next to the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for the Saspamco Building Fund.
