Turley replaces Cowan as executive director
Darren Turley has been named executive director of the Texas Association of Dairymen (TAD), according to a Dec. 20 Texas Association of Dairymen press release. John Cowan, who held the role for eight years, will continue to consult for the dairymen’s association. Turley was assistant director of the TAD for more than a year.
“Almost two years ago, as we were looking for someone to replace me, there was no question that Darren fit the needs TAD had,” Cowan said. “Having been in dairying since childhood and an active participant in dairy cooperative and Farm Bureau programs, he had the best understanding of how to keep TAD representing Texas dairy farm families.”
Turley praised Cowan for his years of service to the Texas Association of Dairyman and to the dairy industry. In 2009, the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council named Cowan as “Cooperator of the Year.” Before being named the state dairymen’s association’s executive director, he served on its board as an associate member for three years.
“John has worked his whole life in the dairy industry, but his contributions to the Texas Association of Dairymen have been instrumental in shaping the current rules and regulations governing the industry,” Turley said.
Turley is a graduate of Dublin High School and graduated from Tarleton State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He returned to work on the family dairy farm. He and wife, Deanna, have been married almost 17 years and have two daughters.
