Adan Barrera, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at the age of 82.

Adan was born on Aug. 29, 1928, in Loma Blanca, Texas, to Concepcion and Eulalia Barrera.

Adan was preceded in death by his wife, Zoila M. Barrera.

He is survived by his four children, Anavie Garcia and husband Ruben, Carlos Mario Barrera, Alberto Barrera and wife Maria Louisa, and Eduardo Barrera and wife Janie; his 11 grandchildren, Nicole “Nikki” Garcia, Ruben Adrian Garcia and wife Anna, Adam Garcia, Adriana Garcia, Victoria “Vikki” Roeder and husband Brandon, Carlos M. Barrera Jr., Jenny Barrera, Selicia “Seli” Barrera, Albert “AJ” Barrera, Eddie Barrera Jr., and Kevin Garces and wife Alli; his six great-grandchildren, Julian Guillemette, Crista Mason, Andrew Mason, Viviana Barrera, Angelina Garcia, and Ethan Paul Silva; his sisters, Artemia Barrera of San Diego, Texas, and Sylvia Flores of Corpus Christi; his brother, Sijifredo Barrera of Benavides; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Adan looked forward to his daily walks, bike riding, dancing, visiting friends at the senior center, and attending family functions and holiday gatherings. He was all about family. Adan was an intelligent, humble, kind, loving, caring, tolerant, and funny man.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 5 p.m. in the Brookehill Funeral Home in San Antonio, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. John Berchman’s Catholic Church.

Interment followed in the San Fernando No. 2 Cemetery.
