Emil C. Baumann
Emil C. Baumann, a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at 6:28 p.m. in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 23 days.
Emil was born June 17, 1923, in Dewees to Otto and Ottilie Lohse Baumann. He attended the Darilek School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Japan and the Philippines.
Emil married Wendelin Maha on Feb. 8, 1947, in Poth. Wendelin, Emil’s beloved wife of more than 57 years, preceded him in death on June 8, 2004.
Emil worked with the Texas Department of Transportation driving a maintainer, where he helped build many roads in Wilson County, retiring as maintenance supervisor in 1985 after 40 years of service. Emil also worked for many years caring for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he helped the priest with different jobs. He worked on the grounds helping to care for the pecan trees, and planted the tree by the parish hall. Emil was a volunteer with the Floresville Fire Department, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, deer hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Emil was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Ottilie Baumann; his wife, Wendelin Baumann; his brothers, Bernard, Albert, and Leon Baumann; his sisters, Adela Fisbeck and Selma Albert; and his granddaughter, Leysa Batot.
Emil is survived by his two daughters, Mary Jane Moczygemba and husband Lester and Brenda Pfeil and husband Kent; his grandchildren, Rob Moczygemba and wife Christi, Bryan Moczygemba, Sarah Moczygemba, Wesley Pfeil and wife Tonia, and Crystal Anders and husband Shane; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Mason, Arden, and McKenna Moczygemba, Samuel Moczygemba, Tristan and Kenley Pfeil, and Brooke and Bailey Anders; his sisters-in-law, Anna Baumann, Jean Baumann, Mary Rose Sekula, and Gladys Maha; and his brothers-in-law, John and Lorene Maha and Billy and Shirley Maha.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 5 p.m. and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville with Father Andrzej Waszczenko officiating and Deacon Scott Donaho assisting.
Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Cemetery in Poth.
Serving as pallbearers were Emil’s grandsons, Rob Moczygemba, Bryan Moczygemba, Wesley Pfeil, and Shane Anders; his nephew, John Sekula; and his cousin, Steve Baumann. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Leslie Baumann and Tommy Ortmann.
