Evergreen offers scholarships to seniors
The Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District will offer a scholarship program to the students of the 2011 graduating classes, including home-school and private school students who reside within the four counties (Atascosa, Wilson, Frio, and Karnes) comprising the Evergreen District.
The program will provide scholarships of $1,500, $1,000, and $500 for first, second, and third places, respectively. The scholarship winners may reapply for the same level of funding for their second, third, and fourth years of college by request, if they maintain a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, and take at least 12 hours of courses per semester. In order to qualify for a scholarship, students must submit to the district an essay of 750 to 1,000 words on the following topic: “Name the aquifers that are found in the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District. Why is the groundwater important to the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District and what are its principle uses? How do we manage and maintain the availability of this resource throughout the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District?”
In addition to the essay, consideration will be given to the student’s grade-point average, activities, and honors.
The essay is due no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, and must be submitted on a compact disc and in the Microsoft Word Document Format. A cover letter must accompany the essay with the student’s name and contact information, grade-point average, and a list of the student’s activities and honors. The envelope containing the essay must be addressed as follows: Scholarship Essay Entry, Evergreen UWCD, 110 Wyoming Blvd., Pleasanton, TX 78064. Deadline and requirements are strictly adhered to.
