Anais Avilez, the daughter of Ray and Mary Ann Avilez of Floresville, will perform in a recital Saturday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church in Floresville. She will be accompanied on the piano by Dr. Mark Alexander, a San Antonio professor.

A senior at Floresville High School, Anais has been singing since the age of 2 and has taken vocal lessons for the past five years, according to her mother. Her vocal coach, Anna Maria Delperdang, is also teaching Anais’ sister, Vanessa, a third-grader at Floresville North Elementary School.

While contemporary Christian music is Anais’ favorite style, she currently is training operatically, pursuing her dream of singing in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

When she is not singing, Anais is involved in several organizations at school. She serves as an officer with the National Honor Society and the Spanish Club. Anais is also a member of the Floresville High School Debate Club, Business Professionals of America, the Drama Club, and the Red Cross Club, and is a Link Crew leader. She also competes in UIL as a vocal soloist.

The busy young lady is also involved with the Floresville Independent School District’s Work-Based Learning co-op program and currently is employed with Fidelity Bookkeeping and Tax Services.

Upon graduation, Anais will continue her studies in music at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. Her mother said her daughter hopes to be accepted in the music department, but has yet to audition for entry.

Anais is the granddaughter of Lazaro and Maria Sanchez of El Campo, and Concepsion Avilez of San Juan and the late Jesus Avilez. In addition to Vanessa, she has two other siblings, Claudia and Jonathan Avilez.
