Joseph Lloyd Taylor, loving husband to his wife of 70 years, Marjorie, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the age of 90.

He was born to Napoleon and Gertrude Taylor in Floresville, Texas, on April 10, 1920.

After graduating from Floresville High School, Lloyd married Marjorie in 1940 and went on to serve our country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. During World War II, Lloyd served on the USS Hopewell in Guam, Pearl Harbor, and Tokyo Bay. After returning to Texas, Lloyd and Marjorie lived in Floresville and Stockdale, where he was a farmer and rancher. While in Stockdale, Lloyd was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, teacher, and Bible study director. He also served on the school board, the Farm Home Administration, the Appraisal Board, and the Texas A&M Experimental Agriculture program. Retirement in 1980 allowed him more family time and time for his hobbies of hunting, fishing, gardening, and feeding his deer. After moving to Seguin in 1986, he joined the First Baptist Church in Seguin and volunteered in the homebound program.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Josephine; his sisters, Mildred, Verna, Cloma, and Bernice; and his brother, Louis.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie; and his daughters, Jere Batten and husband Carlton and Carolyn Johnson and husband Bruce. Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Laura Travalini and husband Rich, Darren Carr and wife Amy, and Paul Bottoms and wife Stephanie; and great-grandchildren Robby Wrinkle, Dylan Carr, and Sammy and Gabriel Bottoms.

A visitation was held on Sunday, Jan. 23, from 5-7 p.m. in the Goetz Funeral Home in Seguin.

The funeral service was held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Seguin.

Interment followed in the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park in New Braunfels.
