Albert ‘Al’ Hensel

Albert “Al” Hensel passed away on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 67. He was born on June 19, 1943, in Pennsylvania.

Al devoted his life to learning and to being a peace officer. He served as a peace officer in New Mexico and Texas. In 1989, he was sworn in as the police chief of Nixon, proudly serving the community until his retirement.

Al obtained a bachelor’s degree in both biology and criminology, a master’s degree in criminal justice and sociology, and a doctor of jurisprudence degree.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Henriette Hensel.

Al is survived by his wife, JoAnn Hensel; his daughter, Laura Hensel; his step-daughter, Becky Cleere and husband Kevin; his stepson, Brian Avery and wife Amanda; his grandchildren, Jordon, Joshua, Jacob, Jarod, Kristopher, Vivien, Tucker, and Dylan; and his beloved best bud, Clump.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale with Pastor Gary Irwin officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
