The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office, which includes Frio, La Salle, Atascosa, Karnes and Wilson Counties, is accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney position. The selected candidate will work directly under the Border Prosecution Unit Initiative dedicated to Human Trafficking/Human Smuggling. Responsibilities of the position include working closely with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, felony intake, preparation of cases for grand jury, negotiating pleas and representation of the State of Texas in pretrial proceedings, as well as in criminal bench trials and jury trials in District Court. All applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and have a minimum of fifteen (15) years prosecutorial experience and extensive felony trial experience. Juanita “Janie” Brown went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 49 years, 5 months, and 9 days. She was a lifelong resident of Floresville. She was born on Aug. 12, 1961, in Floresville to Frank and Ramona Garcia.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ramona Garcia; and her brothers, Simon Garcia and Richard Garcia.

She is survived by her father, Frank Garcia; her children, Christina Leal and husband Casey of Houston, Monica Rangel and husband Angel of Poth, Robert Brown and wife Brandi of Floresville, Michael Brown and wife Maria of Floresville, Adrian Brown and wife Schandi of Poth, Basilio Garcia of Floresville, and John Gilbert Brown of Floresville; her sisters, Lupita Garcia of Karnes City and Jo Ann Soliz of Houston; her brothers, Episanio Lopez Jr. of Floresville, Louis Garcia of Floresville, and Reuben Garcia of Floresville; and 18 grandchildren.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wilfredo Amaro officiating.

Interment will follow in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Pallbearers will be Robert Brown, Adrian Brown, Michael Brown, John Gilbert Brown, Angel Rangel, Freddie Garcia, Emilio Lopez, and Mary Jane Mata.
