Flavian John Moczygemba, a lifelong resident of Kosciusko, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 14 days. He was born May 6, 1932, to Stanik and Mary Olenick Moczygemba in Wilson County.

He attended school in Kosciusko. At the age of 20, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served for 18 months in the Korean War. Flavian married Lucille Laskowski on Jan. 16, 1971, and they were later blessed with two daughters.

Flavian was a farmer and rancher, raising cattle, hogs, and sheep, and he spent his life working the land. He was a member of VFW Post 8555 and St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko. He was an honorable and respectable man who worked hard, had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed all things life had to offer. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Alphonse Moczygemba; his sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Fabian Kowalik; and a niece, Carol Felux.

Flavian is survived by his wife, Lucille of Kosciusko; daughters Ann Hopkins of Poth and Pamela Moczygemba of San Antonio; granddaughter Cadence Hopkins of Poth; brothers Pelagius Moczygemba and wife Elaine of San Antonio and Matthew Moczygemba and wife Sharon of Kosciusko; sisters Celeste Lockwood and husband Ronald of San Antonio and Lucy Golla and husband Joe of Kerrville; sister-in-law Mary Moczygemba of San Antonio; mother-in-law Annie Laskowski of Kosciusko; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and extended family.

Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko, with a rosary recited at 8 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church.

Interment followed in St. Ann’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Kosciusko.

Serving as pallbearers were Flavian’s nephews, Darryl Moczygemba, Derrick Moczygemba, Ryan Moczygemba, Brice Moczygemba, Charles Lockwood, Michael Zaiontz, Kevin Dugi, and Jeffery Dugi.

Memorial donations may be made by way of Mass cards or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
