East Central High School is proud to announce that two of its students received national recognition for their academic achievement on the 2009 PSAT.

Awards are based on the junior year PSAT score. Marlon Davis is recognized as a National Achievement Scholar. The National Merit Scholar Corp. acknowledges the top 3 percent of more than 160,000 African American students who entered the competition. The College Board also recognizes Patrick Feeney as a National Hispanic Scholar. The goal of the National Hispanic Recognition Program is to recognize nearly 5,000 students from a pool of more than 200,000 Hispanic students who took the exam. They must also carry a grade-point average of at least 3.5. Both Marlon and Patrick are part of an elite group of students whose award information is being shared with colleges and universities across the nation.

Twenty-one students from East Central High School were recently recognized by the College Board for their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement exams. AP exams are conducted annually in May of each year, with students striving to attain passing scores that may be recognized by their college for course credit. Many of the students listed below are now attending college, but were recognized this fall by the College Board. Two students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award, Stephanie Wilson and Jonathan Woodbury. Three students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award, Zoe Heinsohn, Lauren Smith, and Bailey Thompson. Sixteen students qualified for the AP Scholar Award, Jordan Baker, Sydney Baker, Elani Eureste, Kelly Fanick, Patrick Feeney, Rachelle Feeney, Claudia Gaytan, Kelsey Johnson, Alyssa Lazzeroni, Autumn McClaran, Kristina Muñoz, Amanda Pawelek, Casandra Pawelek, Jared Pieniazek, Maria Rivera, and David Wright.

Parents or students who desire to learn more about AP courses and the AP exams may contact an academic dean or guidance counselor at East Central High School at 210-649-2951 or go to www.collegeboard.com .
