Thomas M. “Matt” Tipton, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011. He was born in Floresville, Texas, on Sept. 4, 1933, to Harrell Park and Beuna Richardson Tipton.

Matt graduated from Floresville High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baylor University, class of 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Mary Esther, Fla., for two years, after which he worked at Chemstrand in Pensacola, Fla., for 13 years. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 28 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Matt is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Gates Tipton; his son, Gregory Scott Tipton and wife Stephanie; his grandson, Matthew Gregory Tipton; brothers James Harrell Tipton and wife Karlene, Ronald Park Tipton and wife Peggy, and John Larry Tipton and wife Joy; and numerous loving relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 24, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Second Baptist Church in Houston, with Pastor Gordon Smith officiating.

Interment followed in the Woodlawn Garden of Memories in Houston.
