Bess Jones, 90, of Seguin, Texas, and formerly of Leesville, made her journey home to the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011. She was born in Leesville on Feb. 2, 1920, to Robert C. and Jessie (Bradford) Haynes.

She was retired from civil service and worked in Seguin for many years before “retiring” at the age of 80 to enjoy herself. Bess was a longtime Pink Lady for the hospital. She faithfully visited friends who were either hospitalized or in assisted-living arrangements. Bess would not pass the opportunity to smile and encourage. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Seguin, where you could find her if she was not playing the piano at one of the many country churches that relied on her. Her music was a talent that she honored by playing for the Lord.

Bess was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claud Jones of Leesville; her son, Ronald C. Jones of Morfelden, Germany; and her brother, Castle Haynes of Corpus Christi.

She has left behind many family members who will miss her encouraging words and deeds of support and love, including her daughter, Robbie Jones of Seguin; and grandson John Mark Jones, granddaughter Sharon Jones, and great-granddaughter Kimberly Jones, all of Morfelden, Germany. Bess is also survived by her sisters, Helen Taylor and Esther Moore, both of La Vernia, and Juanita DuBose of Nixon; brothers Pat Haynes and Brad Haynes of La Vernia, and Robert Haynes of Realitos. Her nieces and nephews have all been touched in some way by “Aunt Bess.”

Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 27, from 4-7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

A funeral service was held Friday at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Seguin.

Interment followed in the Leesville Cemetery at Leesville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Christian Academy, 1314 E. Cedar St., Seguin, TX 78155, or to the Leesville Cemetery Association.
