Jesse Wayne Westfall, a resident of Columbus, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, in the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus at the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 19 days.

Wayne was born May 8, 1932, in Wilson County to Bill and Verna Teague Westfall. He attended Floresville High School and loved gardening, writing, and reciting poetry. Wayne was known for his practical jokes and making people laugh.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Melba Shouse.

Wayne is survived by his brothers, Leon Westfall and wife Dot of Giddings, Donald Westfall and wife Cally of Hunt, and David Westfall and wife Dorris of Pleasanton; a sister, Jean Rogers of La Grange; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of friends.

A public gathering began at noon on Saturday, Jan. 29, in the Marcelina Church Fellowship Hall in Wilson County, officiated by the Rev. Mark Briggs.

A graveside service with interment followed at 2 p.m. in the Marcelina Cemetery in Wilson County.

Serving as pallbearers were Bill Ingram, Bob Ingram, Sam Sutherland, Darren Westfall, Lynn Westfall, Doug Westfall, Jeff Westfall, and Jesse Westfall. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Cody Buck, Trent Buck, Ethan Westfall, and Elliott Westfall.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to the First Baptist Church, 1115 B St., Floresville, TX 78114.
