Although the recent weather had us walking in winter wonderlands, the calendar reminds warm hearts everywhere that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. If you still haven’t decided what to do for your sweetie to warm the cockles of his or her heart, area businesses have some very good ideas for letting that special someone know how much he or she means to you.

For the incurable romantic who enjoys candlelit meals, what could be nicer than a delicious dinner for two in Floresville’s historic White House Café and Saloon? Under new ownership, the downtown eaterie is offering a rib-eye steak dinner for two and live entertainment. Call 830-393-6428 for reservations.

Other area meal specials are available at Bubba’s Burgers and Fries on Sulphur Springs Road, Jack’s Café in Floresville, and the Pecan Grill in San Antonio.

Ful-O-Pep Ranch & Home Center may not be the first place that comes to mind for Valentine’s Day gifts, but don’t let that stop you from checking out their jewelry, candles, purses, gourmet foods, and other specials for women or the wallets, knives, flashlights, and more for the special guy in your life.

Speaking of the menfolk, would a new hat make his heartstrings sing? Check out the selection at Herb’s Hat Shop just inside Loop 410 on Rigsby Avenue, where Herb is offering 10 percent off straw hats.

If all that shopping makes you both tense, treat each other to a relaxing massage. Heavenly Touch Massage Therapy in La Vernia is offering a one-hour Swedish massage for $45 or a one-hour couple’s massage for $140; gift certificates are available. Call 830-779-4033 for information. Body & Sol Tanning Spa in Floresville has a 30-minute massage for $25 and Valentine gift certificates are available. Call 830-393-0000.

And there’s nothing wrong with the classic gift of flowers, either. The Flower Basket in Floresville and the Petal Patch in Stockdale can help you with a bouquet to bring a smile to the face of your special someone.

See ads for these Valentine specials on page 3B.
