Marjorie Myrtle Sawberger
Marjorie Myrtle Sawberger very peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011. She was born on Jan. 14, 1925, to Ernest and Sarah McCaleb in Conroe, Texas.
Marjorie grew up in Baytown and attended Robert E. Lee High School. Following her marriage to Edward in 1943, and seeing him enter the Army Air Corps, she did her part to support the war effort by working as an employee of the Quality Manufacturing Co. in Houston, making 81 mm mortar shells. Later, she and her family were very active in the First Baptist Church of Baytown and she was very active with her daughters, Anna and Alice, in their school and Girl Scout activities. She was employed with Citizens National Bank in Baytown for 19 years before retiring to La Vernia in 1983. In La Vernia, she and her husband were active members of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling each year with her husband, and being close to their children and grandchildren.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Edward J. Sawberger; her parents, Ernest and Sara (King) McCaleb; her sisters, Bernice Birbeck and Fae Lew; and her brother, Jim McCaleb.
She is survived by her two daughters, Anna Price and husband Don of Floresville and Alice McHalek and husband Ed of Fredericksburg.
She is also survived by two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Jason Price and wife Lisa of Victoria, and their children, Katelyn and Ryan, and Brandon Price and wife Caroline of Birmingham, Ala., and their children, Sydney, Taylor, and Ben.
The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Arun Rao and staff of the Cancer Care Centers of South Texas, and all of her compassionate doctors of the past six years, Dr. David Wood, Dr. James Knight, Dr. Jimmy Uy, Dr. Jude Espinoza, and Dr. Roger Muse.
They also wish to thank the members of the La Vernia United Methodist Church, Pastors Kahl, Goodridge, and Weidner, and her many friends there for their constant love and support. They also want to remember all of the gentle and loving caregivers at the Floresville Nursing and Rehab Center and Vista Hospice Care.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Harry Kahl, Jerry Goodridge, and Cyndi Weidner officiating.
Interment will follow in the Concrete Cemetery in La Vernia.
In lieu of flowers, donors may make a contribution to the Cancer Care Centers of South Texas, 40 NE Loop 410, Suite 500, San Antonio, TX 78216, or a charity dear to your heart.
