La Vernia gears up for stock show
The 54th La Vernia Junior Livestock and Poultry Show will be held Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 24-26, at the La Vernia Chamber of Commerce on U.S. 87 in La Vernia.
An invitation is extended to one and all to join in the celebration, assisting local youth to complete their 4-H or FFA projects in the judging arena. The La Vernia Chamber of Commerce, Stock Show, and Auction Sales Committee welcome everyone to assist in making this another great show and sale for the community’s youth.
Rabbit judging starts on Thursday at 7 p.m. Judging begins on Friday at 8 a.m. for poultry, followed by lambs and goats; arts and crafts judging is at 10:30 a.m., with baked foods show judging at 11:30 a.m. Afternoon judging starts at 2 p.m. with the steer show, followed by breeding cattle. The swine show begins at 6 p.m.
Also on Friday, an auction for baked foods and craft items will get under way at 4 p.m.
Food and refreshments will be available from vendors throughout the show.
The animal and poultry auction starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Funds raised through the auction ring help exhibitors with future education expenses, such as college and technical schools.
To ensure that each exhibitor is provided a fair and equitable price for their projects, the buyers’ pool and auction sales committee invite donations toward the auction. The buyers’ pool bids through the auction to ensure that bids are kept at a steady price and averages out low numbers following sale to benefit the exhibitors. All donations received are acknowledged in local newspapers. All dollar amounts are accepted; every little bit adds to the overall totals for the youth exhibitors.
To donate to the buyers’ pool, visit the booth set up at the show or send a contribution to the La Vernia Chamber of Commerce Buyers’ Pool, P.O. Box 152, La Vernia, TX 78121.
Those interested in bidding on a sale item may sign up at the registration tables and in the hospitality building on Saturday starting at 11 a.m., where auction sheets and add-on forms will be available.
Auction buyers must have wristbands to enter the auction. Buyers may enjoy refreshments in the hospitality building.
Snacks and refreshments will be served throughout the event.
