The food and nutrition project helps participants learn to make healthy food choices, improve energy and alertness, reduce disease and illness risks, and gain knowledge of nutrients. Major learning experiences are centered on nutrition, menu planning, food buying, preparation and food safety, careers, and cultural influences.

The District 10 Food Show and Quiz Bowl were held on Jan. 10 in Fredericksburg. Congratulations to all participants. Job well done!

District 10 Food Show results:

Junior Division:

fruits and vegetables: Sara Buccigrossi, third place; nutritious snacks: Jennelle Siegel, ninth place.

Intermediate Division: main dish: Claire Weber, first place; fruits and vegetables: Ethan Campos, third place; breads and cereals: Emma Weber, third place; nutritious snacks: Sharon Halliburton, first place.

Senior Division: main dish: Kytheranialynn Fambrough-Brown, first place (advancing to state); fruits and vegetables: Adlai Welfel, second place; nutritious snacks: John Colby Shodrock, second place.

District 10 Nutrition Quiz Bowl results:

Junior Division Team: Jake Guerrero, Jude Maldonado, Natalie Marek, Skylynn Servantes, third place.

Intermediate Division Teams:

Megan Fox, Serena Servantes, Shae Shodrock, Sharon Halliburton, second place; Nathan Marek, William Lanier, Hannah Esparza, fifth place

Senior Division Team: Charles Albert, John Colby Shodrock, Kimberly Lanier, Roseann Palmer, first place; Senior team will be advancing to State.

The State Food Show will be held in College Station on June 16 and the State Quiz Bowl will be held in College Station on June 14. Good luck at State!
