The February female student of the month is Sabina Marroquin. Sabina is the 18-year-old daughter of Lori and Anthony Marroquin.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Junior Historians, and the debate team. She also earned academic achievement in sociology.

Sabina was active in extracurricular activities at Burkburnett High School as well. In 2007, she was a regional qualifier in cross country. She advanced to the area track meet in the 400-meter dash. She also earned numerous medals as a member of the 400-meter, 800-meter, and 1600-meter relay teams. Sabina was also a member of the basketball team.

As a member of the Burkburnett High School Band, Sabina served as president, vice president, section leader, and drum major. She earned recognition as a member of the UIL Solo-Small Ensemble in 2009 and 2010 and was named to the UIL State Solo-Small Ensemble in 2009.

She is a member of the Key Club and serves as the organization’s secretary. In addition, she is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Despite her busy schedule, Sabina still found time to work at the Vernon College Kid’s Camp in 2009.

Upon graduation in June, Sabina plans to attend Midwestern State University, where she will major in education. She hopes to one day teach American history.

The February male student of the month is Barrett Raabe. Barrett is the 17-year-old son of Tammy and John Raabe.

Barrett has earned numerous recognitions and is a member in good standing with the National Honor Society. He was named the U.S. History Dual Credit Distinguished Student and was named to the A honor roll three times. He also received an award for perfect attendance. As a member of the Tiger football offensive line and the Tiger basketball team, Barrett earned recognition as Academic All-District.

He has held the office of president, reporter, and treasurer for the class of 2011. As a member of the 4-H, he is a two-time member of the state riflery team. He is a member of the FFA.

Barrett volunteers his time and talents in the community. He has participated in Tiger trash pick-ups and has been active in his church, assisting with cemetery clean-up efforts and serving as an usher.

This past summer, he worked as a ranch hand, in addition to working at Opiela Mechanical.

Upon graduation in June, Barrett plans to attend Texas A&M University, where he will major in kinesiology with aspirations to continue on to medical school to pursue a career in orthopedic surgery.
