Bernice Casey, 76, was born March 4, 1934, in Refugio, Texas, to John Franklin Davidson and Lucy Norean Nichols.

On Feb. 11, 2011, after attempting to put out a small candle fire, the unknown became more than she could handle and the Lord was there to take her home peacefully, along with the two little dogs by her side.

Bernice was a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend that each of us will have a memory to reflect on, her family said. Her strength, love, and faith in Christ are what she instilled in her children and the most pride and joy of her life. Remember, Bernice is now at peace and suffering no more.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jonilou Norean Casey; her son, Ronny Franklin Casey; her niece, Evelyn Martin; and her brother-in-law, Cecil B. Jordan.

Her cherished memories will live on through her surviving family, her daughter, Lisa Casey Atwell and husband Lee; her grandson, Andrew Lee Casey of San Antonio; her sisters, Mary Jordan of Floresville and Marjorie Harwell and husband Edward of San Antonio; and countless dear friends and extended family members, who will never forget how her cheerful smile, lovely spirit, and caring for others will forever change us all.

The family received friends on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 6-8 p.m. in the Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio.

A funeral service was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Northeast Baptist Church in San Antonio.

Interment followed in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Pallbearers were her grandson, Andrew Casey, honorary pallbearer; Jeff Hanselka, Joe Robledo, Craig Healey, Frank Stephenson, Jordan Stephenson, Daniel Martin, Clint Kingsbery, and Lee Atwell.
