Antonio “Toney” T. Guerrero passed away at home on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at the age of 81. He was born on Feb. 8, 1929.

Toney was a great man and a decorated hero. Toney enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air Force at the age of 17. He served his country for 12 years and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

During his tenure with the U.S. Army and Air Force, he was awarded a Purple Heart, a Silver Star, the Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, a U.N. Service Medal, a Combat Infantry Badge, Army OCC Medal-Japan, and the Air Force Longevity Award.

Toney was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita Travieso Guerrero and Frank Guerrero Sr.; his brothers, Louis Guerrero Sr., Joe Guerrero, and Frank Guerrero Jr.; and his sisters, Frances “Kika” Alfaro and Roberta Barrientez.

He is survived by his brothers, Tomas Guerrero and Steven Guerrero; his sister, Mary Jane Barrientez; his children, Larry and Inez Guerrero, Maria and Rene Estrada Jr., Jerry Guerrero, Jeannette and Marcelo Benavides, Jo Ann Garay, and Judy Garay and Diana Bocanegra; his grandchildren, Robert Ramirez-Guerrero, Bernaddette Mendoza, Larry Guerrero Jr., Damien Bartonek, Esmia Diaz, Jerri Guerrero, Rene Estrada III, Samuel Guerrero, Emily Benavides, Sophia Estrada, and Marcelo Benavides Jr.; two great-grandchildren; countless adopted children and grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.

We will miss our father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend, said his family.

The Guerrero family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who sent prayers, cards, flowers, food, words of faith, and acts of kindness during their father’s illness and homegoing.

They would like to give a special thank you to the hospice staff, John Guerrero, Rene Estrada Jr., Kevin Stone, Father Phil, Mel Cooley, Ruby and Crystal Camarillo, the Church of Christ, Frank and Thomasa Guerrero, Sheila Lowe, Franklin’s Funeral Home, Richard Talamantez Sr. and the pallbearers.

A prayer service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville, Texas.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Pallbearers were John Guerrero, Larry Guerrero, Rene Estrada Jr., Damien Bartonek, Robert Ramirez Guerrero, and Larry Guerrero Jr.
