Avis Yvonne Wheat passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 61. She was born in Nixon on Aug. 22, 1949.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Bernald Wheat; her grandparents; and one uncle.

Avis is survived by her son, Lawrence A. Wheat and wife Alesa of Paris, Texas; her mother, Elizabeth (Reed) Wheat of San Antonio; her brothers, Don Wheat of Big Spring, Lawrence Wheat of San Antonio, and Phillip Wheat of Big Spring; five grandchildren; one great-aunt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. J.C. Williams officiating.

Interment followed in the Harris Chapel Greater Rising Star Cemetery near Nixon.

Memorial donations may be made to the family.
