Simona M. DeLeon, 98, of Smiley, Texas, died on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, in Gonzales. She was born in Gonzales County on Oct. 18, 1912.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Refucia (Robles) Martinez; her husband, Chon DeLeon; a son, Jose DeLeon; and two brothers and two sisters.

Simona is survived by her two daughters, Elvira Flores of Yoakum and Maria Martinez of San Antonio; her six sons, Herculano DeLeon of Seguin, Lupe DeLeon of Smiley, Pablo DeLeon of Nixon, John DeLeon of Gonzales, Julian DeLeon of Cuero, and Eusebio DeLeon of Smiley; 31 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews; and many friends.

A visitation was held on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 4--8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m.

The funeral Mass was held on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Smiley with Deacon John Moreno officiating.

Interment followed in the Wrightsboro Cemetery in Gonzales County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
