Texas Farm Bureau scholarship opportunities available
More than $112,000 in financial aid is available for aspiring college students through scholarships offered through the Texas Farm Bureau.
Annually, scholarships of $4,000 each are given to one leader in FCCLA (formerly Future Homemakers), one in FFA, and two in the 4-H Club.
“Youth are the future of agriculture, and Farm Bureau invests a substantial amount of time and money in youth leadership development,” said Wilson County President Ervin Kotzur. “I urge Wilson County youth to apply for these scholarships.”
The deadline of Friday, March 18, is near for the following scholarships:
•Texas Farm Bureau District Scholarship -- There will be four $1,000 scholarships offered in each Texas Farm Bureau District. These scholarships are based on academic achievement, organizational involvement, and the applicants having completed a project that promotes agriculture or Farm Bureau.
•Texas Farm Bureau Agriculture Research and Education Foundation Scholarship -- Graduating seniors who plan to enter college in the fall of 2011, whose families have been Texas Farm Bureau members since at least March 14, 2009, are eligible. Two scholarships in the amount of $4,000 will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activity, involvement, and other considerations. Scholarships will be awarded $500 per semester for up to eight semesters.
•Young Farmer and Ranchers Scholarships --Thirteen $1,000 scholarships will be awarded on a Farm Bureau district basis to graduating high school seniors planning on pursuing a career in agriculture. Scholarships will be awarded $500 per semester for two semesters. Multiple $1,000 scholarships are also available for current college students who are studying an agricultural curriculum, and have completed a minimum of 45 semester hours of college credit.
•Dick Mitchell Scholarship -- This scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded to a high school junior or senior who has attended the Texas Farm Bureau Youth Leadership Conference.
Full requirements for all scholarships can be found on the Texas Farm Bureau website at www.txfb.org or at the Wilson County Farm Bureau Office in Floresville or La Vernia.
